Default 6000RPM camshaft

Parts are starting to stack up for the T56 swap, which will result in the following:

2004 Reg Cab short bed
T56
LS7 clutch/flywheel
4.56 gears
32" tires
4200lbs
LS1 manifold
Pacesetter Long Tubes (end of the summer)
2.5" x-pipe True duels

I have a set of 5.3L heads that I have milled 0.050" and have had stock 2.00/1.55 LS1 intake valves installed. Minor blend work and smoothing (no heavy porting).

I'd like to thereby setup a cam that has a peak somewhere in the 5500RPM area with a shift point no more than 6000RPM. 2 reasons:
1) tach stops at 6K and after that its a guess on shift point (don't want to do a shift light)
2) don't want to deal with rod bolt issues or needing really stiff valve springs

I like the TR224/224 but that has a 6600RPM shift in a 5.7 so I would expect that to go closer to 6800-7000shift.

I was THINKING perhaps a 220/220 on a 110LSA advanced 4-6 degress. The tight LSA should make for a narrower and more focused band while the advance would more the valve events earlier.

Input?

There's a couple dyno graphs posted on here of a TR220 in a 5.3 and the curves look awesome. Dunno what the lobe separation angle of that was (112 or 114), but it'll be close enough to get a ballpark idea for you. Just do a search.

i have a 212/218 predator cam in my 4.8l. pulled good to 6500rpms. should drop a few hundred rpms in a 5.3l. sounds like something you should look at. had a good powerband and should be torquier in your setup.

That's quite a wide lsa, though it is in a 4.8. Do you remember the advance (intake center line)?

A cam that cheap sounds like a regrind. Personally, I'd steer clear of regrinds. They have a nasty history of failing. Also, I think the valve events of the low lift version of the 212/218 cam are more low-end torque friendly as opposed to the high lift version that's being talked about.

I Hate to tell you this but you can get a brand new camshaft ground for $250. Ground to any spec. Just because Comp Charges $400 doesn't mean they are the best. I have seen plenty of those $400 dollar cams fail.

Back on topic.

I also agree with the low lift version of the 212/218. Theres a few dyno sheets on this site to back it up.
