A new LS3 is probably around $8K and the LS7 is somewhere around $13.5 K (plus another $2K for the sump, harness, etc)

Lot of green.

Which is why a 6.0 (bored, stroked, forged, stock, etc.) is such a popular choice because it can make great power and you dont have to take out a second mortgage to pay for it.

In 2001-2002 GM raced the 8.1 with cam, springs, ported stock iron heads. The HP3 was about to be released as a crate engine, but pressure from Mercury forced GM to quit in the marine game. They didnt want GM's "truck" engine beating up on Mercury's high dollar race engines. Since Mercury was GM largest SBC and BBC customer in regards to buying their marine engines, GM backed down. The purpose of the HP3 was to prove that a standard truck 8.1 could be used in racing with minimal mods. The HP3 was rated at 525hp/560 lb/ft torque, this was all on 87 octane as well. After GM dropped the HP3 project, there was a company that continued on with the 8.1. They got up to 560hp on 87 octane before things started letting go.

Crane and Comp Cams make cams, you can get pistons, springs. Not the support of the GEn 5/6 BBC, but the GEN 7 8.1 BBC can be made to work.

peace

If you want to be different I have an ASA dry sump motor road race motor that would be awesome. And would bolt up great to a 4L60E. You should buy it

there are aftermarket parts out there few and far between and you'll pay out the butt for them! not worth it though. 6.0L is the best bang for the buck in my opinion. Ive been very happy with my 370ci setup that I have. I just need a good tune now (and for it to quit snowing!)

The reasen no one does it is cause of post like this, if no one does it how can everyone say it wont perform. Iv never heard of it done and if there are a few peaple that have tryed it it was a guessing game anyway and no idea what to do. A 6.0 is cheaper and easer but if you can aford to do a 8.1 build i say try it..
