Default 88 GMC 383 Stroker Question

I have a 88 GMC Sierra 2wd (front end updated to a 94 GMC) with a 383 stroker. It has a scat crank, 400 rods, Kieth Black pistons, comp cam, edelbrock dual plane intake, 650 holley dual feed carb, after burner headers and rhino exhaust. Has a 700r4 transmission with B&M shift kit and B&M light truck mega shifter. I bought the truck used and I don't know what the duration of the cam is or anything about the torque converter. My problem is that the truck lugs at low speeds. Is it because of the high stall converter? Is the cam to much for low speeds? The truck was obviously made to mash down the throttle but around town I can't mash it from light to light all the time. I would like to change where the torque comes on and I am wondering if anyone here has used the B&M converter lock-up control? Would that help? Or would a different cam or converter be the asnwer? Thanks for the help.

I bet that it is lugging because your torque converter is locking up to soon. I have basically the same setup in a 1991 and I never found a lockup that would not lock the verter to soon. I ended up just putting in a switch and I manually lock the verter when I want to. Here is how to tell. Most all 700r4's will not lock the verter up in 3rd gear. I would pull it down into 3rd instead of drive. Go drive around and see if it still feels sluggish. If this fixes it you need to find another way to lock up the verter.

Good luck

Hey thanks, I'll give it shot, as soon as it quits snowing around here. What kind of switch did you put in to lock up the verter?

I have used the B&M variable lockup control and it is a very nice piece. I am going to put one in my truck for my 700r4 if I decide to stay with a 700r4 base instead of 4l80e.

Sounds like a good engine. Find out the cam specs and torque converter specs, that will help.

I just modified the painless wiring harness I bought when I set up the trans. I just put a rocker (on off) switch in line with the harness and made it where it will do it automatically (it is opperated off of engine vaccume) or when I flip the switch to on it locks it up.

I am going to this as soon as I get the chance look up transmission harness. www.ronfrancis.com
