? about boring out 4.8

Default ? about boring out 4.8

wats up i have a 4.8 03 silverado i wanted to know how much you can bore it out to and what kind of performance gains i can get from it thanx again cuz i wanted to do that or was considerign a motor swap like an ls1 or somthing

the 4.8 and 5.3 (same block) can be bored to a ls1 bore and then you basically have an iron block ls1. If you had a 5.3 all u would need is pistons. but the 4.8 has a differant crank and rods. all you need is a ls1 rotating assembly and the machine work of course.

boring it out to the max will net u a 5.3L... to get a 5.7L you'll have to get a crank if im not mistakn

4.8 and 5.3 have the same bore. They can be bored to ls1 bore. Throw a crank in it and get a 383....

i have another ? if i bore it out to a 383 strocker and put a cam thats ment for turbos could i do so and run it with out a turbo setup or no?

you could, but compression rates would be different and you won't make as much power if you run it N/A...

I've been down this road recently, and came to the conclusion to just buy an LS1 shortblock. it ends up being cheaper than all the machine work on the iron block, and a 4.8 block bored to 3.898 is worth next to nothing if you ever decide to sell it.

ic where could i get a ls1 short block and how much could i bore that out to if wanted to ?

i was thinking instead of boring it out what about getting a new block like a 402 short block or long block what do u guys think would that be making some horse power or what ?

If set up correctly. It sounds like you have some homework to do my friend. Get searching
