I was once in the same boat. Ended up being cheaper to take the 4.3 out of my s10blazer and throw it on the ground. Dropped a rebuilt Gen1 350 in for the same price as rebuilding the 4.3 with LOADS more power.

hey leave the guy alone guys.

i would first start off with pulling the motor. unbolt the heads. drop the crank/rods/pistons. then

scrap the heads and block for like 10 bucks at the yard. then weld the rotating assembly like its rotating in the motor and put a glass table on top of it.

BAMMMMM right there is the most useful 4.3 v6 you have ever seen.

now go to the junkyard buy a 5.3 for 250 bucks. harness. motor mount adapters. bolt it in tune it and have a 295 flywheel horse s10 that gets better MPG also.

once you start modding and you think its fast and you race your first 5.3 with just intake, exhuast, and tune and get drug, maybe then your mind will change

Im not a big fan of the 4.3L either, but if it's what he wants to build than all the power to him. The only way I see it running worth a damm is either with boost, or n20. I don't think running 9's, or 10's with a 4.3L in a S10 would be out of the question, but would take some $ for the engine to handle it reliably. You would need to convert the block to splayed, 4 bolt mains, short hard block fill, Good pistons, H beam rods($$$ there different than a 350), Custom turbo cam, valve springs, and push rods, port the heads to flow 250+ CFM, machine the valve guides down for the springs, and extra lift, balance rotating assembly(which will likely need mallory$$$), head studs, cometic gaskets, etc. There will probably be well over $1000 in machine work alone.

After your done with that swap over to the marine style intake manifold, and start building the turbo kit. I would start out with something like a Master T76 p trim, 68AR.

The reason everyone is saying LS swap is you can get a 5.3L from the wrecking yard, swap the cam & springs, build your turbo kit and your done.

A low dime's s10 is fast, on the spray me and him are pretty even depending on what MPH we go from.

BUT, he is also pretty close to his limit, because spraying more than a 125 shot on that thing daily would probably make it blow after a few months.
