It usually varies between $75.00-125.00 for boring and honing the truck blocks. Sonic checking the bores can run an additional $75.00-100.00.

Man, I didn't know it was that reasonable, I was thinking in the $300-$400 range. It might not be such a slow build-up after all. I need to make some calls around Houston and get some prices.

I was thinking:
3.893 bore (LS1)
stock 5.3/6.0 crank
Scoggin Dickeys forged LS6 pistons
Lunati H-beam rods or stock LS6
stock LS6 or Patriot LS6 heads
stock truck intake
TR 220 cam
stock LS6 Maf
stock ETC tb

I was just looking at your site and will the LM7 stage 2 heads be good for my plans? How much do they run for a pair and w/ no cores?

If your going to bore the cylinder to 3.90", then you could install our Stage 2 CNC ported heads. There's two ways you could go depending on the compression ratio you want. Our Stage 2 CNC ported 5.3l heads will get the chamber volume to 65cc. That would make the c/r on your engine around 10.5:1. If you need the c/r lower, we could exchange your 5.3l heads with 5.7l heads. They have a finished chamber volume of 72cc. That would lower your compression to approx. 9.75:1. The cost for a complete pair of heads runs $1300.00 (exchanged). Feel free to call us at the shop anytime. We'll be happy to answer any questions you have.

I think I'll go w/ a 3.90, 10.5:1 would be nice. I plan on going N/A. Thanks a bunch for your help, hopefully I can get some $ saved for the heads. One more ? though, would those heads work ok on my stock 5.3?

The high compression will help the torque across the band. I recommend caution with higher c/r in an extended cab truck. The hot summer temps and higher loads of the truck chassis can cause a fair amount of knock with pump gas, although I believe you have 93 octane pump gas in your state. We have 91 octane here and it makes engines with high compression ratios knock under high load situations.
We install a 2.02" intake valve on our Stage 2 heads. That's VERY close to the cylinder bore. I wouldn't want to say for sure it would be ok because of the close valve/bore clearance. Also, the intake port runners are a bit large for a 5.3l displacement engine. I wouldn't recommend those heads be used on the 5.3l. I don't want to sound like doom and gloom, but I believe it would be better to wait to do the heads at the same time you build the engine.

I run 93 right now, but what you said makes a lot of sense. I'll just wait, thanks a bunch.

If your gonna go through that much, with the ls1 bore and a 4 inch stroker kit, you could have a 383

do the ls1 style pistons connect to the stock connecting rods, or does the 5.3 crank connect to the ls1 style connecting rods?
