do you think it would be fine the way it is at all? since the gouge is horizontal and not vertical. would it be that much of an issue? i know if it was a vertical gouge i would consume oil like crazy

whats a 4.04???? a 410?

I'm not sure about that man. It would just seem like a weak spot to me -- kinda asking for trouble if you know what I mean.

410

I think Benkey had to do 4.045 because I seem to remember him saying it was a 411.

yea its a questionable thing to ponder for awhile. might take block to a machine shop to get looked at and ask their opinion.

410 doesnt sound as good as 408 lol

The machine shop idea sounds like a win to me.

Custom pistons are about $700. If the dents are small then really if you just knock down the high spots it would probably be ok. The high spots I mean by how when you peen metal it makes a recess at the point of contact but pushes the area around it up since the metal has to go somewhere. A 3 stone hone may work best for that and then finish with a ball hone (a dingle berry hone here in the south). Or rub them down by hand with a straight edge and some 400-600 grit then finish hone. If there is just a small divot there it would be fine IMO. It would just hold a little oil.

Mine custom wiseco pistons were a little under 900 and to my knowledge they are about as expensive as pistons get before you get into the full on race super high dollar stuff. My block is bored out to 4.04....
