If I stick with 317s and get some flat tops is it possible to mill enough off to reach 11:1 cr? If so how much?

if a lq9 fitted with 243's is about 10.9:1 , witch 243,s are 64.4cc then make the math if ur 317's are 72cc's you would have to mill them about .060 give or take to get them that high on cr with flat pistons ! remenber !

every .006=1cc ! so every time you mill 6 thousands you take away 1cc!

the info is there use ! my friend ! may the force be with you ! lol j.k

remember you cant just mill away like crazy you must keep in mind clearence issues ! such as intake manifold clearing and valve to piston! on a flat top piston!

I understand the cc conversion and i know there might be clearance issues that is why i asked if it was possible or not. I do not see any type of simple cr conversion table that is what my post was referring to. I am not going to mill that much off of my heads it is cutting it way too close I am most likely going to run some stock 243s and flat tops now as far as clearance issues with that I do not see any issues as far as valve to piston clearances since the LQ9 can run them. Thanks for all the help.

And to go with the info 1slowz71 just gave you, Wallace Racing has a butt load of calculators to keep you busy for a while. http://www.wallaceracing.com/Calculators.htm

what is was told from richard at wcch, if you mill them over .050 you playing with fire ! not couse of valve to piston clearence (in an lq4) but from the intake manifold not bolting up! the thing is that the way the heads are desined when you mill them the seperate further out so the intake manifold will be to small ! or will no be wide enough! its hard to explain ! he explain it to me a few time b4 i understude it!

Ok starting to think about going a totally different route. Thinking 408 stroker may not be out of range for my budget...for about $1800 from TS I can get everything I need. Since I am not doing this till next summer most likely I can do the L92s and a good cam...I am really considering this now...

go with 243s, though its really not all about flow numbers, its basically how the porting is done, dont get me wrong flow numbers are great, anyone can port a head but if you dont know what the fugg youre doing then there worthless, a CNC can only do so much, a hand port will tell the tale. its all about how they flow not so much how much they can flow

im building a 408 now with the l92 setup thats on my 6 liter ( stock short block ) if i knew what i know now about porting i would have went 243s you match parts you see great results

Quick Reply: Buy 243s or work my 317's?
