cam for 4.8. tr220 or tsp212/218?
Looking for a cam kit for my 84 cutlass. Motor is a 4.8 and I have talked to both companies and this is what they each recommended for my setup. My question is will I gain anything by choosing one over the other? Or will the difference be minimal? Setup is a carbed 4.8, th350, 3600 stall, 3.73's, and ~3200lbs. And the choices specs are: tr220/220 .551/.551 and the tsp212/218 .558/.563. Any other recommendations are welcome. Thanks.

I'd go with the TR220 also, considering the weight of the vehicle and the 3600 converter. That converter should compliment that cam in a 4.8 nicely. I love that generation of Cutlass/Monte Carlo. I used to have an 85 Monte SS myself, and have seen a few with LS1/6 etc...the GENIII engine looks like it was meant to be in there

Thanks for the quick replies. I will more than likely order the tr220 since most reviews favor it. Yea I like these cars a lot. This one I bought of an old lady who bought it new. It has 76k miles on it with full documentation, window sticker, owners manual, etc. Her son borrowed it and locked the motor up in it and she sold it to me. It is a brougham with mint condition interior but the exterior is really faded.

*EDIT* Post up some pics of that ride in the Show and Shine section if you could

TR220 with that verter for sure.. BTW a pic of the 85 beater.. Like you it was bought off a old lady with 57k on the ticker, just some front end damage that was a easy fix for 170 buks.. This could poss be the candidate for the 6.0 once it comes out of the truck

Nice ride there John, the G-bodies are my absolute favorite. I'd like to have another mid-late 80's Monte or Cutlass again someday with a GENIII mill for sure. Wish I never got rid of my SS, but I used it as a trade in on my truck.
Hey, I'm supposed to keep things on track here lol...can't help myself, I love G-bodies!
