Default Cam in my Suv

Ok so ive been looking at getting a cam in the near future and ive had my eye on the tr220 cam. My ride is an 07 hoe with the 5.3l dod engine. Ive weighed the truck and it weighs 5380lbs with me in it sittin on Empty. My question is, will the tr220 on a 114lsa be able to handle the heavy beast? I know there was a guy on here I think his name is Norris something that had a NNbs yukon and did a comp xr265 cam then changed to a 220/220 grind cause the xr265 wasnt enough for his taste.. I have dynoed the truck and power starts to really fall off at about 5500rpm, thing is i mainly do roll races at about 20 to 40 ish mph so off the line power isnt really a concern in a race but i dont want it to be a dog off the line when i take off from a stop light just daily driving it. Anyways i would really like to hear some of the comments you guys have so please let me know what ya think....

Oh, yes i will do full exhaust and stall to compliment the cam, but for now just getting ideas.

Thanks!!

Depends on what you want out of the cam, and what you plan on doing to the vehicle down the road. My suggestion would be to call up a cam company, give them your wants, and they will let you know what grind you should go with.

Everyone will have their preferences and you will get mixed opinions, so it is best to drum up a "wish list" and hit the phone!

Ah okay, thanks for the reply. I will probably end up doing just that

I wouldn't go with anything larger than a 212/218 in a 5k+ pound vehicle. jmo, though

I have considered a cam with those specs before. Though i have read alot of people get bored with them and want a little more.

Depends on how long you want to wait for your power....a 220/220 with a stock converter in a 3-ton SUV would suck, IMO.

Yeah i understand that. So does anyone know what the typical gains are with a cam around the 212/218 specs. The truck makes good power, almost 290 horse with just intake, tune, and a muffler on a Dynojet. I just really want more pull all the way from 2k to 6200 or better

you'll have most of your torque gains around 2800-4500 with that cam...

I would go with the 220 cam on .58x lift (comp XER lobes) but that is just me.... BTW Speed Engineering has them on sale for $359...

Yeah i just checked out the sale, not a bad price at all. Its funny that your the only one to recommend going with that big of a cam in a heavy truck
