Default cam suggestions?

got a 96 silverado with vortec 5.7l. all stock other than exhaust. im looking into a good cam with a sort of lopy idle but not to bad. i want it to be noticed. what are some good cams that wont be hard to tune and will add some pretty good performance gains? also any other things tuning wise i should know? thanks in advance.

08-502-8 Comp Cams "Extreme" Hydraulic Roller Camshaft, 218 / 224, .495 / .502 112 LSA, High performance application, largest with stock converter, noticeable idle

but you will loose bottom end if you want that lopey idle.

the heads will need to be machine for larger springs. comp springs 981-16

you can get this cam cheaper through thunder racing

all most forgot you can reprogram your pcm to match the cam with this hand held tuner.

Good choice on the cam. However, I disagree on the hand held tuner. Why spend $427 on the hand held when you can get a custom tune from Nelson Performance (Sponsor on right>>>>) for $250?

I agree...you will need a custom tune for that cam. The 218/224 is a nice cam in a 350....you will definately get the lopey sound but if your looking for something a little more low end go 212/218. For a mod like that, I would also have to suggest some sort of exhaust or your gains will be minimal...like headers and performance muffler. Also, with the .495 lift from these cams...you will need to replace the push-in studs with a screw in stud design. The push-in studs are only good for .475 of lift.

Your comparing two different cams though...you can't do that. You will need to do screw-in studs with anything over .475 of lift. That's just the bottom line...the vortec heads weren't made for more than that. The stock valve springs on them are only good for .450 of lift.
