What Im saying is that the smaller cam can be superior at the track and still have GREAT drivability. My bolt on gto M6 beat my buddies car that had a Torquer V3 in it, just because he had to wait until 4000+ to make serious power. If he had a smaller cam, he would have wiped me all over the track.

As for tuning, what I'm saying is, back in the day, before all these "donkey dick" cams came out, all they were doing was tuning with items such as the HPP3, and still running those times.

so now your saying a hypercrap is superior and allowed for cam changes and etc?

dude if you have a large cam you just leave a higher rpm. a power band that starts at 4k is easy to race. with a manual you leave high anyways so your point is invalid. plus in a race with a manual youll never be lower then 5 anyways. even in an auto never under 5k with a cam like stated. what you just stated comes down to driving!!! if someoen has no clue how to drive he or she can have 800hp but dont have clue how to make vehicle respond the vehicle wont do anything

NO, I am not stating that the HPP3 is superior, thats all they had back in the dawn of the ls1 to tune with. I believe that you NEED custom tune, just just on the dyno, but one on the street as well. Datalog on the street and make a drivability tune on top of the dyno tune. His was a stalled auto, and we both spun off the line, I just took him.

all honestly, if you are putting all of that in a RCSB, i would definately try a MS3, with 4.10's and your converter, im pretty sure that your converter will flash higher than 3600, i know alot of people are scared to go with a big cam but really its cause they have never driven a big cam vehicle? its not bad at all, everyone is scared to drive a bigcam/big converter and so on,,,, all the new parts for these LSengines have nothing to do with the old school racing parts.... i am with txsilv, i would like to run a bigger cam like that MS3 with a 4k+ converter one day, and im an ext. cab, i would of done it along time ago with i was in a RCSB.... plus like mentioned, how are all the guys in the RGV running reall good times with big cams? obviously they are doing something right? as long as you have the converter and gear to back it up then it shouldnt be a problem..

Bill, I agree with Lance on this one...

Stick around 230 duration tops, you could tighten up that LSA to about a 110 and it will bring the power in a touch sooner... When I was talking about going with a N/A 5.7L I was spec'd a 231/228 .595/.600 108+2.... Weird looking cam but if you look into it a little deeper, it will sound huge(if that's what you want) and run like hell, and still be pretty torquey...

I like custom grinds over anything off the shelf though.

The problem with the huge cams is this is going to be my daily driver... cams like the MS4 are out of the question. I need streetability... if Fbody guys are disputing the MS3 as streetable it would be ridiculous in a truck.
