Default Cam Swap = Oil Pressure Loss

I just swapped the cam in my truck and have lost some oil pressure. The truck used to idle hot around 30psi and go to 40 to 45 psi at highway speeds. It now idles hot at 20psi and goes to 35 to 37ish at highway speeds. So I have lost about 10psi thru the spectrum. Anything to worry about?? Same weight oil after cam change 5w 30.

You may have nicked a cam bearing during install or the bearing to cam clearance is greater with the new cam. Did you replace the frt retainer plate that has the seal for the oil gallery?

the cam plate is really tender . . . if you torque it too much . . . it will crack

I did lose a little bit of oil pressure after my cam swap. Less than 5 psi though. I just figured the clearances weren't as tight.

+1. Most likely nicked a cam bearing on the removal/install, or the bearing clearances are bigger now.

well....I'm having the same problem...my pressure used to idle hot at 30-40psi...now it's at 20psi and appears to be dropping gradually. I didn't swap cams, just installed a new balancer... I'm thinking my issue is the front seal of the timing cover...

problem is I can't easily get to the front seal or oil-pump (to check the O-ring) because the front diff is blocking the oil pan from dropping....

If there was an issue with the front seal it would be leaking externally, and I doubt that you'd see a noticable oil pressure loss, just a big leak.
