Default Cam Swap Suggestions

LQ9 my current Sloppy Stage II cam is not bad but looking for a cam that delivers more torque under the curve to about 6500. A nice "chop" is a must even with some power sacrifice. Truck is driven a couple times a week and never will see the track.

Long tubes with 3" true duals, 3200 Circle D, 4.10 gears, 50lb injectors, 255lph pump.

I have HPTuners, still learning, I've got the MAF & VE pretty much down with my current setup but not sure I'm ready to tackle a lot of camshaft overlap.

The first version BTR Stage 4 224/230 .553/.547 111+2 has 5* overlap and should be easy to dial in,
The second version BTR Stage 4 224/230 .553/.547 109+0 has 9* overlap and may be a challenge for me dialing in?
I'm guessing the V2 cam's redesigned 109 LSA is to bring the torque and powerband in sooner?
Either of these would be an easy swap as I already have PAC 1218 springs installed good to .600

The other cam I've been eyeing is the Tick Performance SNS TorqueMax Stage 2 227/235 .618"/.605" LSA110+3
This cam requires a spring upgrade like the BTR .660 which I have no problem spending the extra money & time doing. This one has a whopping 11* overlap.

Mainly looking to smoke tires with idle chop and a lot of midrange torque.

Any other suggestions?

Loosen up the converter some. Sloppy Stage 2 is plenty of cam to roll the tires.

I run a very modest cam in my 370, smaller than yours. I have a 80e and run a 390 gear and can roll the tires all the way through 2nd if I want.

Zero problems smoking both tires through first and second without loading up the converter. Looking to move the torque lower so I don't have to twist the motor up to 6500+ to feel the power. The Sloppy is a cam for a much lighter vehicle that works just "ok" in a heavier truck.

I don't expect to outrun a LS3 manual SS Camaro (as in the vid) but I feel more low end torque will help my setup all around.

My Comp Cam has plenty of low end for having a loose converter and it chops a good bit.

222/224 @ 112+2 (110 ICL)

I don’t know what heads you have but the 706 heads get hate and most have never tried them. I pulled off a set of CNC 317s for them and got my bottom end back.

In a heavy truck, port velocity is more important than volume.

Stock 317's with PAC 1218's

I've bookmarked that Superchevy article "706 vs the world" you posted some while back, pretty interesting read. The Comp "Thumpr" is on my short list along with the Cam Motion lil Chopper. Hell I've even looked at the WS6Store ASA cam... I'll decide on one, then dammit, another will change my mind lol.

Put the 706s on. The added compression outweighs any negatives from them.

I had their ASA cam and thought it was my issue with my low end but it was my heads. I wished I’d kept it.

After I put my 706s on, my truck wanted 10% less fuel everywhere. I definitely make more power but the quench tightened up a lot.

Quench didn't move unless you used thinner gaskets

Just stumbled across your ASA idle post over at LS1Tech while researching. (pm me if you want it removed)

All those cubes really tamed down the ASA idle compared to the smaller LS1, sounds really good, what exhaust and valve springs were you running then?

I ran a .625 beehive. Most people will tell you to do duals for safety.

Exhaust is 1 3/4 LTs, 3in piping into a 31” Borla round muffler. It’s a big bitch.

Dual springs are a lot heavier than beehives even with the titanium retainers. I've been looking at the PSI 1511ML beehives. I've read there hasn't been any reports of these .625 springs failing but they're $240 a set which is ten dollars more than the BTR .660 springs and a $100 more than the PAC 1219 .625's

The ASA has risen to the top of my list.
On the other truck forum another member suggested the Cam Motion Lil Chopper 222/232 .595/.587 108+3*
It has the same overlap as the ASA at 11* with less duration (ASA 226/236 .600/.600 110*)
