DrX what is the measurement .340 lifter (rough) what did you do to get that measurement ? measure the distance the lifter moves ? if so multiply that by 1.8 thats equals .612 of valve movement whats the .485 lift number for ? by lookin at the pictures. than spring is at its limit of being compressed. and if in fact you got .612 lift. those heads arent set up for that amount of lift. theres the your issue.

Just updated the lifter travel with an exact measurement of .355". Eyeball was pretty close though.

Lifters feel pretty well solid.

Cup adjustment may have been moved slighly. Might play with that a little to see what effect it has.

DrX you have .639 lift at the valve with your 1.8 rockers. now if you set up again and set the tip on the valve retainer,,,,move the valve to .639 and take another picture of the spring. i have a very good feeling your gonna see your problem.

I must have backed off the cups when I tore the motor down. With everything tightened down solid the new valve lift is .634"!

when your done doing these meaurements.take the camshaft to someone who has a CAMDOCTOR computer program and ask them to run the cam. it well tell you exactly what you have all the way down to the "t". it think your definately gonna find you have more cam than you think. no matter how you do the math nothing adds up to .595-.600 like whats on your sheet.with 1.6,1.7, or 1.8 rockers.

DUDE !! YOU SEE THAT SPRING ? ITS COMPLETELY COLLAPSED. NOW im gonna tell you how to remedy this issue and you will have a very good knowledge when you are dealing with the machinist. first get that cam exact measurements from someone with a camdoctor.take the heads to a reputable machinist.(if he has a camdoctor like we do,he knows what hes doin)give him the cam specs and the heads. and tell him what happened.he will show you what needs to be done and give you a price.re assemble the engine.those heads were not set up for that cam and if the engine builder is good he may fix it for ya. however, you already got the engine apart.so,there may be some fussing about the numbers. but,the way you measured things,numbers dont lie, they never have when it comes to building engines.thats all they are is numbers. and you now know what yours are.

Maybe I didn't back off all the adjusters before, but I did have to crank them down to compress the lifters in order to get an accurate measurement and see what is happening when the engine is running and the lifters are fully pumped up. You can see in the first pick where they were adjusted when I received the engine from the builder. 2nd pic is where they are right now. There is a difference of a couple of turns. They would have to be backed off again to setup the lash properly.
