You can buy ported heads at a reasonable price now that CNC machines are able to replicate the porter's original pattern without the use of time consuming hand porting.I think with a little shopping you could buy a set of ported heads for about $1100.

I bought a set of mildly worked 5.3L heads off e-bay for $250 and a local guy is going to put my new Lunati springs on them and do some p & p for $400.

Porting is increasing the intake port and exhaust port openings, along with smoothing out the runners themselves. It increases the amount of air flow to and from the cylinders.

I am interested in port work as well. I dont care where i have to send my heads. As long as it doesnt take forever, they are reasonably priced, ans they do good work, im going them.

Can anyone chime in on if porting affects gas mileage? If this was your only mod, what kind of results would you get?

I plan on porting my heads myself. It should boost mileage and power as you're making things more efficient through less drag and turbulence. That is if you are sticking with the stock air/fuel ratio.
