I don't know, the high lift version of the 212/218 didn't make enough extra HP in my opinion to warrant the extra fatigue it put on the valve springs. Maybe they know that they are not going to be able to compete with others in the market so late in the game and built their cam along the lines of Comp Thumper series. If I was an old guy with a vette I would sacrifice a few pony's not to have to change my valve spring every 20,000 miles.

That's true, I remember seeing dyno sheets of both in a 5.3, and the high lift wasn't that big of a difference...but I also agree with Erik, it depends on the heads. I'd be curious to see how a cam like this would perform vs. the same grind with more lift, on an engine with worked heads.

It will definitely sound mean...

It would be an interesting thing to have one that not too many people have. But I need to run my A/C so I dont think I would pony up the dough for the Edelbrock cam. I dont think 110 LSA would be very A/C or vacuum brake friendly.

Well the combo of the duration and the 110 would definitely have an affect on vacuum, but I bet that good tuning could take care of it. Most of LS the cams that I'm familiar with bottom out at a 112 LSA at the tightest, but I know that a member or two here have had their cams ground on a 110. Pretty sure that Pat G has spec'd a few tight LSA cams also. The EPS TT3 that I've been window shopping is ground on a 111, with 224/230 duration and .609/.607 lift...that's about the tightest LSA "shelf" cam that I'm familiar with. (Geoff has it listed as a 4.8/5.3 cam and recommends 4.10+ gears and a 3500+ converter. I think this would be a good cam for my LQ9).

Remember, it's more than just the LSA that affects vacuum, idle, driveability, "lope", etc, it's the total overlap that decides that. A cam can be ground on a 108 but still have a lot of vacuum and smoother idle if the duration was low like .200 for instance. Overlap is the amount of time that both the intake and exhaust valves are open at the same time.

I too like the idea of running something that's original or different, but only if it's "better" also. I think that one reason that a lot of guys may have the same or similar engine components is because they find out what seems to work and use it for themselves. That's why certain cams are so popular, such as the Comp 212/218 in a 5.3, or the TR/TSP224's for the 6.0 (back before the cams kept growing bigger and bigger )

When funds allow brother, been flat busted, and I have to fix both my front and rear diffs first. I really would like to do an AWD conversion first, but if I wait to do it that way my LQ9 will never see the light of day lol. I need to get caught up on my daily bills before I can justify any modding unfortunately.
