Found this article and thought I would share. Every so often we get these debates on proper break-in procedures and of course everyone has their own opinion. This is no different, however this guy takes the time to explain why he prefers this method and he's done some testing to back up his beliefs.

Very interesting article, I read that a few years ago when it was posted on a motorcycle forum.

I remember reading somewhere else that two identicle cars were purchased from a dealer, and the only difference was the break-in procedure and there ended up being like a 20+ hp difference.

I'll definitely give that a try on my next new engine/vehicle.

The shade-tree mechanic method says it's broken in as soon as it stops puffin blue, cause all you're trying to do is seat the rings. That being said, I still go easy on it for a little while. I value durability over absolute maximum output, but that's just my opinion.

i was easy the first 100 miles, then would do some 3/4 pulls. i then did did some wot pulls after 1k miles, and my ls1 runs great!!

when my dad bought my truck new in 2005, i drove it right away and since it wasn't my truck i did pretty much what this guy explain is right to do lol, now i am glad jeje

interesting, and it make perfect sense... When i test drove mine at the dealer i went WOT about 5 times with only 10 miles on the damn thing...


Also i watched a documentary (Rides) about the new Lamborghini, once one of their motors are built, they warm it up on the dyno, then do a couple of full pulls, if the numbers are not good they ditched the motor or completely rebuilt it...

So your saying I should say thanks to my wife for doing high rpm donuts in my truck 10 miles after it was built. And apologize for the "stupid b*tch" comment. Hmm I learn something new every day. I didn't realise she was just properly breaking the engine in. How could I be so stupid.
