Default Fel-Pro head gasket failed!! "Help"

The gaskets had around 2000 miles on them till this week. Herd a small pop then smoke started coming out. Took the motor apart and realized it was the passenger head gasket trashed.

It's a 2000 5.3L LM7, should I get Gm graphite gaskets, Ls9 gaskets since boost is coming down the road.

I know i cant use MLS gaskets due to water leaking or something

Can somebody list my options.

I appreciate yall's time greatly by the way! =D

You can't use LS9 gaskets either, because they are also MLS. You need to get some factory graphite type gaskets.

I'm guessing your heads have the "notch"?

Throw the heads in the scrap pile, if you were local I'd give you a pair of newer 862 or 706 5.3 heads. MLS or bust.....GM quit using them cruddy graphite gaskets for a reason.

That's cool....but the newer heads would allow him to use MLS gaskets. I'm happy for you though for running 11.8 NA lol

It wasn't NA, it was supercharged.

I just think it's nuts to say throw them in the junk pile. I know there are better options out there, but that doesn't make his heads junk, unless they're cracked. Just my 2 cents.

I'm using LS9 gaskets on my '01, but my heads are 799's. You would need to see if your heads have the "notch" as mentioned. I forgot which castings had them.

I also used FelPro graphite head gaskets on the stock 706 heads for about 30K miles w/o issues. I switched to LS9's last week for boost.

I know

5.3 heads are a dime a dozen, they are easy to find for free if u really need them. Then he can use MLS gaskets since he'd like to use the LS9's. That's my .02 cents (I like prefer my cents just as you prefer yours)
