I haven't seen my questions on here so hopefully i'm not posting something thats been beat to death, ok
1. Is anyone Running the 4.125 stroke crank in a Daily Driver 395-400+cid motor Reliably and if so what pistons/rods are you using?
Is the Short Cylinder wall length a Problem when i use a 4.00-4.125 stroke crank ?
Who has the best quality LS Crankshafts from the aftermarket?
On my LM7 iron block i am using ARP studs is it Normal for LS blocks to get align honed afterwards?
How much Power is a 3.903 bore 5.3 block good to?
Hopefully i can get some input before i shell out the dough!, Thanks a Bunch HPT's

4.125 is a bit long on the stroke side. id make up for cubes in the bore if it were me . the 4.00 is about the most i would run in a daily setup .

crankshaft depends on your pocket . more than likly if you staying under 1000 a cheaper one will work . eagle is about the cheapest but will work . you may end up spending more on balancing one to offset the cost of buying a callies.

you need to sit down and figure out your goal with your motor to get more specific answers.

Yes, short walls is a problem for anything over 4.00" stroke like Chase said. About the longest I've heard in a non-LSX block is 4.1" and that'd get a huuuuge "Don't do it" from me.

I use callies cranks for everything, and they definitely have some proven gen III strokers out there running. Eagle works, but I'd not risk a max effort, high HP mill on one.

You are better off picking up an iron 6.0L block than working on your 5.3.

Thanks Guys thats what ive been hearing, Originally i was going Eagle/Eagle But i decided i should go with a Compstar Crank 4.00, Compstar 6.125 rods, Mahle Coated Pistons with Good rings and Coated FM bearings, The 5.3 is just about to go to the machine shop LOL, I guess i could sell it or part it out, Heck its in 100% mint shape not even a mark on the bearings! I could find a 6.0 block, i just thought a 383 Iron LS1 would be neat for my truck, was going to use CNC Ported 862's 310cfm at .600 PAC springs all upgraded 2.02-1.575, 224-224 .581 lift 112lsa TS Cam, 11.5:1 Compression, Worked truck intake, Ported TB, 1-7/8 LT Stainless Headers, No cats, CB Magnaflow, CAI, Dyno Tuned by Wongs, I thought i could make 490-510hp at the Flywheel and 475-485tq with this setup maybe more, with a 4.00 bore size that would really opens things up!

Default Stroker Motor

Check into the K1 crank and rods. Price is right, and top quality. 4.00 stroke and 6.125 rods, with Wiseco X Series is a nice package. They sell the package on http://www.wiseco.com

From what I have read, 4.00 is the longest you want to go with the stock block, and some say that is too much.....i hope not because I took a chance with this setup. Some say the pistons will be scuffed from this stroke.

I added the ARP main stud set, and that meant an align hone job...

here is a pic of my bottom end...and btw, the windage tray will need some mods as well...

Nice! Well there sure is a Lot of guys running 383-408 strokers But i have heard its on the edge pulling the pistons out too far,
What were your main and rod clearances at? which bearings did you use? does the kit come ballanced? how much for the kit? Thanks

Default K1 and Wiseco

I paid 781 for the pistons and 780 for the crank and rods. Add a few hundred for the main and rod bearings. I used clevite bearings as suggested by Wiseco/K1. I will check with my dad for the clearances. He built it while I was in Iraq. I had it all balanced as well. Its not exactly a package deal, they just sell the crank, rods and pistons all on Wiseco's site for any kind of set up you desire. The crank is non twist forged, cross drilled, 4340 steel, and is nitride hardened which is better than induction hardening. Good quality crank for any price, and to me 780 was a steal. The Wiseco's X Series pistons are top of the line. I was looking at Lunati first, and the prices are outrageous, and I can't see that any of it is better quality. The K1 rods are also very nice. My dad has built many racing engines, and he was impressed with the quality. This is a street motor for daily driving, but I am sure I could slam it with nitrous or a supercharger, and it would be bulletproof.

Nice! I agree, where did you get that kit from? thats an affordable range for me, i am planning to piece mine together as well, the K1 crank at 780 is a Great Deal!, Scat Pro Comp I-beams are 280$ a set and are good to 750hp and were used in that PHR or Car Craft 408 build, and Wiseco Coated Pistons, they have them for 581$ with rings for a 5.3 3.78-3.80" bore size so if you don't want to you don't have to go to a 3.903 LS1 bore size as those piston kits are 781$ , so for 1,641$ i could build it like that and have a 362ish stroker or for more $ a 383ish stroker, I don't know if anyone else knows but Wiseco has Straight Forged/coated Piston kits for 5.3liter motors now in 3.78 and 3.80 bore with 6.098 and 6.125 rods with a 3.622 stroke!!! now if you want you can easily get over 11.00:1 with your 5.3 for just 581$!!! Thanks for the info, i definately would like to see what your 408 has for clearances!
