Default Ford 545

Long and short I am building a pull truck, to compete in a class we got around here called 'Lokal Yokal' and its a run what your brung kind of ordeal. So I am building up a Ford Truck, using a 460 as the base. I want to stroked it to 545, using a CHP (Coast High Performance) Rotating assembly, and I was just wondering if anyone has any foresight for me. Now before we go and tell me to go to the 460 forum, there ********, and they are just repeating what was told to them. So thanks in advance guys!!!

Big engine, big axles, big drivetrain, big budget. Other than that, I don't have too much to offer. Sorry. I know a few guys that are into that kind of thing, but I don't know much about it. This is a friendly forum, though. Where are you located?

I'm from SOuthern Ohio, and I got Big axles and such, I mean if a Dana 80 wont hold.... Hell if I know what will! Lol and I just wondered how much clearence work I will need to do. I plan on having a really good setup, but I am not trying to do this to win, just doing it as a side project, the trucks a restoration, its a 1975 F250. Can you by chance give me a idea of where I could go about hooking up a dual coil ignition system???

Either Aluminum CJ heads or Trickflows, IDK yet, cause I am paying off a loan and it will be paid off next pay check then I am going to start dumping money in. The trucks going to be a restoration Project, a Retromod, and a Sled Puller, so I am doing everything the best way I know how. I figured on a set of trickflow A460 340 or 360 heads, ported and polished, being feed by a tunnel ram intake with two 600 CFM carbs, I figured with a big engine, and heads that allow for good torque, enough fuel, and keeping it cool, I will be in good shape. On the intake side of things I am thrown up int he air about just N/A or if I should put a roots charger on it. I am going for the horses! Oh did I mention I want this to run on premium street gas and be able to be driven to the track, car shows, and to work??

I ran the aluminum cj heads on a 521 about 15 years ago and it ran great
11.20's n/a and 10.20's on the gas in a 68 scsb. It was my dd through high school and for a short time after. I want to do another big inch build with a john kasse top end if my bank account and wife will let me.

I just Finished a 521 BBf on Methanol with My Hand Ported A429 heads ported FMC Single Plane intake, Used comp Solid roller 268-276 .726 108lsa 108ilc 13.6:1 Flat Top Pistons, Aluminum Rods, DOVE block all used race car parts 1050 holley
this thing has a smooth idle with the baby cam lol still made 845hp 740tq though
They Aren't hard to build, I like the KAASE oil Pump if youb can get an oil pan for it, Definately use LW rotating parts and don't skimp the cam! 282-290 .800 lift 110lsa is a decent size cam for pulling especially in a 545
all the hp is in the heads and intake, Blue thunder has bad *** heads so does kaase and his affordable P-51's fwiw

Well again I want the truck to be a driveable on the street, drive to to work once in a while for people to point at and say 'Isnt that the Ford that whipped everyones *** at the county fair?' (Yeah I have a dream) I Just want a set of Aluminum heads so I can run a 9.5 - 10.5 CR. As for air intake its thrown up in the air. I got a million ideas it just depends on how much money I make. I like the idea of no boost just all N/A So mainly I been playing with the idea of a tunnel ram intake with dual 600/650 CFM carbs. I also think making it a 545, will be helpful so I dont have to go high RPM to make a bunch of power. And I was always told Marine Cams are great for Trucks like mine, anyone know for sure?? Also I cant find it but I heard of runnign a dual coil ignition system, and the reason for this is that not every ignition system gives the same spark pattern, but using two different ignition boxes together at the same time, you can make a more complex, better spark, which I think would work good for my application.

545
10.5:1 compression
246-254 .675"i .685ex 111* lsa 2* advanced
solid roller
Hand Finished Kaase P51's or TFS 340cc which ever head has the best average flow from .200 lift to .500 lift on intake and exhaust is the head I'd pick then get them hand finished
Port matched tunnel ram Weiands are good
Dual Holley 1050 4150 pattern carbs
good stepp tube headers 3.5 inch collectors
good msd 6AL system or ICE ignition
no need for dual coil unless your paranoid one might go bad lol
when they say some cams are Marine Cams most the time that just means a less aggressive lobe profile so it's easier on the valvetrain for long term reliability but that also means less tq as aggressive lobes usually make more power under the curve
The engine above done right would come in around 725hp at 5800rpm and 725tq around 4500
