Default Fu**ing crank pully

a friend and i installed a new cam on his 5.3l. i know the bolt is tty but he reinstalled it anyway. so he drives it and it drives awesome. but i don;t think he crank it down like i told him to. so the bolt backs out and the pully spins off. OFF!!! so i torque the **** out of it. but yet it still spins the bolt out. when it starts you can see the pully spin and stop and spin and stop. so he got the supper high strength lock tight and lets it set over night like the instruction say. he got about 2 miles down the road and the pully falls off again. so at this point i'm thinking we need a new bolt for sure and maybe now to pin the crank. what do you guys think?? i now we should have got a new bolt to start with but he didn't so no what....???

BTW i'm alittle drink so i hope this makes since.........

New bolt and torque it to the factory specs. Not knocking ya but "torque the **** out of it" doesn't work with this design.

yeah i didn't think so. haha i told him to go ahead and get a new bolt. i also told him might pin it and drill a hole through the head of the bolt and saftey wire the damn thing too.

but for real will just the new bolt and factory specs work??

too many keys close together.........voooodka is yummy.

also is there anychance that the pully is screwed now? as in how much would it take to make the pully where it wouldn't fit tight anymore? he said it doesn't just slide on it take pressure to put it on.

I reused my bolt because I was too lazy to go get another one. Didn't use any lock tight or anything and its still going good. Although I do plan to swap it out to a new one sooner or later, this one is still holding just fine.

I've seen that happen before. Once it happens once you either need to replace the balancer or re-install it with a pin kit and a new bolt. When it spins it the balancer will lose a couple thousands of metal which isn't acceptable when it's a press fit system. If you want to really trust it again you can replace the balancer or pin it. (yes even on an N/A engine)
