Interesting that you say that, especially since the guy is building an engine for forced induction. The engine doesn't depend on valve sizes and naturally aspirated breathing (as much as a non-F.I.,) ability to make power. A thicker bore wall will add to durability of the engine in high boost conditions. Also, there is something to be said of combustion efficiency being greater in a smaller bore.

I don't see sticking with a 5.3 bore being a "really bad decision in every way", am I missing something? Just don't want to mislead the guy into thinking the 5.3 bore creates a "crap" engine that isn't worth a damn.

To the O.P., Federal Mogul also sells 5.3 bore (and over bore (.020 to 3.800") pistons under the "Speed Pro/ Sealed Power" brand name. I'm not sure if they are forged or the material you are looking for (as alloy properties vary i.e. - piston thermal expansion, durability ......).

Thanks for all of the replies, guys-
To answer your concerns about the hypertech- no I wouldn't run that with the Procharger.
Unfortunately this is the only kit (GM trucks 99-2006) that Procharger stills sells in which they don't support real tuning- the kit comes with an FMU, and that's it. That thing is already in the garbage, Siemens 60lb injectors are ordered and the HP Tuner is lined up.
I will be putting a Walbro pump in the tank too.

Get rid of tht hypertech tune! Iwouldnt use a hypertech tune on a stock vehicle! Lol. For the price difference get a stret tune, and with your mods I'd even take it up a notch and. Get it dynoed.... I think that's the reason for your failure, your stock pistons should be fine withyour mods with a proper tune I would think..

Crap sorry. I missed your last post about not using the hypertech with the procharger

So here is my parts list, let me know if you see any fitment issues:

Eagle rotating assembly part#12900:
-Eagle 4340 crank (stock throw or maybe a stroker)
-H Beam rods 6.100" (maybe longer if I go with stroked crank) with ARP bolts
-Clevite rod and main bearings
-Mahle 3.900" forged pistons -16cc (i still have to do the calcualtions for C.R.- I want to be at 9.0-9.3 with stock cc combustion chambers)
-------------
-ARP LS1 head studs: 134-3609
-ARP LS1 Main studs: 234-5608
-Fed mogul oil pump: 224-43645 (I just read that guys are using the LS6 pump- so maybe I'll find that one)
-ACL cam bearings
-Crane cam# 1449571 (210/218 @.050, 531 lift)
-Comp cams spring kit with pushrods: 54100
-Lifters- ?? (don't have a part # yet)
-Fed mogul timing chain
-Felpro upper and lower gasket set CS9284, HS26191 PT-1 (any high performance headgaskets out there?)
-Heads will probably be ported with oversize valves by Parker Race heads

Anything I am forgetting?

Tuning:
-P1SC Procharger with 8lb pulley
-Deatchwerks 44lb or 60lb injectors
-Aeromotive FPR
-Aeroquip fuel lines tank to rail with fuel cooler
-Dyno tuning with HP Tuner
-Intank Walbro pump
-Back-up external Bosch fuel pump

I am only looking for 385-400 at the wheels with 400-425 ft/lbs and COMPLETE reliability.

Unfortunately the truck has a newly rebuilt 4L60 not a 4L80, but that is for another section of this forum...

Cometic is a HP gasket maker. Is that Federal M. oil pump high pressure or volume? If I ever need beyond stock pump, LS6 will prolly get the nod, but that's me. Any others, I'd have to research. A bulletproof fuel system, huh?

It is my understanding that the LS6 pump is the same exact pump that is used in the 4.8, 5.3 and 6.0 truck motors, so it wouldn't be an "upgrade", just a "replacement", if my sources are correct

OK, I may've heard that, but I didn't know for sure. Therefore I'd hate to make an assumption & steer him wrong. I still don't, as your track record on "info" is a bit shaky lately. SLP ports a LS6 so that's 1 idea. I wanna say Titan makes that high zoot billet unit that looks like it'd be good enuff for ProStock but for our motors.

Thanks for the confidence booster bud...

Yea, I think the whole "LS6 oil pump" thing is more of a marketing ploy than a real deal

Here's the beast. I'm sure they're not cheap, but a problem on this end won't let me see. ( Mozilla probably is why)
