I'd recomend something from the newer LSR line. The Comp Cams 265LrHR12 which is a 215/223 .604/.610 on a 112LSA has been a great cam for 5.3L's. I've recomended that cam for a few 5.3L guys and all have been very happy with the results. Tuning is the big key with it, but that cam makes very good torque and yet still pulls just fine up high with a shift point of around 6200 or so. Here is the spec sheet. http://www.compcams.com/Cam_Specs/Ca...csid=1399&sb=0

Just make sure if you do decide to run a cam from Comp’s newer LSR line as recommended by Zippy, that you pay closer attention to the valve-springs, as the LS6 springs will no longer be adequate.

How rowdy would this cam be? I would imagine with its lift and lsa it would chop pretty well. My wife wants a little more power from her truck so I was thinking small cam. I wouldn't want something with a heavy lope.

You'll certainly need a great set of springs for this cam. Look for a guy on silveradoss.com named matt. He has this cam in his 5.3L and if I recall has some video of it. It has a mild lope, but drives well and makes good power everywhere.

Runs great! Mild lope once it warms up, but not to much. Get it tuned by zippy it runs great!

agreed, And if you want a good power proven cam its gonna need a converter to go along with. The tr220 is a great power proven cam. My truck put down 325hp/290tq with 22s and a 3k stall and other boltons. And this was on a mail order tune which is very conservative. Nick

I agree that a converter is your biggest gain for off the line. The camshaft however will be just as big of a gain in the quarter mile and will help the truck in all aspects of driving. In my own truck I did the converter first, but I was planning to do the cam not too long afterward anyway. It's tough to get a cam to work well with the stock converter. Fortunatly cam technology is only getting better allowing you to use bigger cams that make more torque down low than even the stock cam.

Time to bring back this old thread. I'm looking at getting this cam (the 215/223 .604/610). How would this work for a DD... Anyone running this in a DD? How much MPG did you lose?

Before I even touched the engine I went to a 4.10 rearend that made so much difference in the truck alone, It used to downshift going up a steep overpass now it just keeps cruising. A good converter & gears would be a great foundation to build on. I did a lot of stuff to my engine and I still get 15 mpg cruisin around town if I'm not standin on it.
