Good cam for 5.3 no tq conv
#21
I think that would be good in a 5.3, similar specs to the Vinci Trucker with a bunch more lift. I'd run at least a 2600 converter though. What's the LSA on that cam...are those the new Comp LSR lobes, or is that a custom grind? As for MPG loss, I don't think that it would be too bad if the tune is spot on, but there will be some MPG loss.

Also, anyone running an LS1/LS6 intake with a bigger throttle body to really help it breathe in the upper revs? I figured with a cam like this I figure letting it breathe easier wouldn't be a bad thing, even if it costs me a bit on the low end.

*EDIT* Checked Comp's website, 107 ICL, so 5* advance

Well, that solves that mystery. So what do you guys think? This cam with a stock converter for the time being, and work my way towards intake/90mm Throttle body, LT headers, maybe a 2600 or 3000 stall?

I say go for it...I was was running my Custom Ground version of the Vinci Trucker Cam (Predator Grind) 216/224 .551 .551 on a 110 LSA and it ran very well with the stock Verter

I was/still am, running that cam in my 5.3L and absolutely love it. Works perfect with the stock converter, I'm sure there would be gains with a small converter but definitely not worth changing in a DD. Honestly I don't check the mileage to much but it got 17MPG with a 30min drive both way out to the drag strip, ran two passes, then drove back. Filled up and it got 17 so I would say it's pretty good on gas with the spot on zippy tune I got.

I gotta say though, as well as my baby cam did with the stock converter, the fun factor increased %1000 after I got my Circle-D 3k in there. Even if I was on the stock cam I'd want a converter in one of these GENIII trucks, just my opinion If just wanting a cam swap though, it's good to know that there's no need to have to pull the trans in this situation.

Well there ya go, nothing like real life results to tell the tale I've heard that Zippy does real well at maximizing a cam's potential in both the power and efficiency departments...word is that he can make even the most aggressive grinds sound stock Once again it goes to show the importance of a spot on tune

You're going to love it Matthew...I haven't owned a vehicle with a converter since 99 and forgotten how fun it was to drive. Now that I have one again, I don't know how I survived without it for so long! And just like everybody says, once you get used to it, you want more!
