Honestly I don't check the mileage to much but it got 17MPG with a 30min drive both way out to the drag strip, ran two passes, then drove back. Filled up and it got 17 so I would say it's pretty good on gas with the spot on zippy tune I got.
What springs are you running with that? Did you use the Comp dual springs that they recommend or did you go with Pats or PACs, or is there another set of springs around?

Eventually I'll get all this figured out and actually pull the trigger on something, this will be the first internal mod I've ever done and I'm just trying to get everyone's input on everything.

I think that I am going to use this cam, but I'm going to be looking at something like $1100 when everything is said and done with the cam, springs, pushrods, lifters, and retainers... lol, a 30 dollar LS1 cam started all of this, I have one that I was just going to toss into my 5.3, so I'm a little nervous with my project going from 30 bucks to 1100, so yeah, I'm taking my time.

Don't hold your breath, unfortunally I'm gonna pick up a set of new wheels first and that's going to kick my vehicle account right in the pants, but mine are rashed, worn, starting to rust, and nearly impossible to balance, it'll be before track season though.

You may beat me to the punch, and get to tell me how it works out for you. lol

I've recomended that cam for a few 5.3L guys and all have been very happy with the results. Tuning is the big key with it, but that cam makes very good torque and yet still pulls just fine up high with a shift point of around 6200 or so. Here is the spec sheet. http://www.compcams.com/Cam_Specs/Ca...csid=1399&sb=0
Thats's a dang fantastic looking cam and looks like it would work great with a 6spd. My question is, with that kinda lift, would alterations to the cylinder head be needed such as around the seat area to accomodate that kind of lift? Also have reaservations about that tight LSA, I'm not really looking for lope, a slight lope is OK- and retaining vacuum..........

There's a video of it I believe in this thread if you look through it, he started it, it was cold so it didn't lope at all, but he said that it does have a mild lope once it warms up, I would think with a good tune there'd be very little lope. I haven't done the research yet to see if you need to worry about anything with the heads, I would assume you wouldn't, the cam is designed for the 5.3/4.8 to be used with their dual springs (.650 max lift). I'm sure someone around here can give you a definitive answer about it.

I used there Comp 918 Springs, max lift is .600 and the cam is a .604/.610 so I was told they would work fine, and they have been perfectly fine but next time around I would go with what they recommend or a nice dual spring like you said.

on a 5.3 for cam only, what pushrods length would be recommended. 7.4?

Depends on base circle of cam, most are smaller and require the 7.4s unless the heads have been milled signifigantly.

Ok im running what they call a GM hotcam. Its a 218/228 .525/.525 on 112. I have 3.42s out back and stock converter. I wanted a good thump at idel and got it. It has awsome mid range power now too. My springs are the yellow zo6 springs and comp pushrods. But my truck has some miles on it and that cam didnt help my lifters any. They are starting so have some sound at high rpm so just keep that in mind bro.
