Guide my Cam please!
Okay you professionals......got a choice here.....I got access to 2 good used cams....seen them with my own eyes and inspected them so I know they are in great shape....with very little miles on them.
I need to know which to purchase.......
1st is the Vinci High Performance
"042" 200/208 .500/.500 115
2nd is the "OEM" cam out of a 2004 SS Silverado
Which is the better choice?

like T said, we need more info.. what do you have?
the 42 cam would be good for a 4x4 that needs low end tq
the stock ss cam well.. its a stock cam lol.. I believe its the same specs as all the 99+ trucks? So you are swapping a stocker for the same cam.
I have the VHP 210/218 cam in my 04 ECSB 4x4 and im happy with it above 2400rpms.. but below I lost some low end. I know she roasts my tires at about 5500rpms at the top of 2nd gear lol...
im gonna get a 2400 stall shortly so i dont have that nasty low end slack..
I also had to get tuning for mine to idle with that cam.. some dont need tuning for cams up to 212/218 but mine didnt like the 210 cam. A 206/212 cam is nice for a daily also.. If I did it over, i'd got the 212/218 cam

I liked the looks of the VHP cam...because of the low end hole shot it should give me. But I don't want a really aggressive cam.....I drive this thing everyday.......

The SS cam is bigger than the stock 5.3 cam depending on the year. The 5.3 cam is 191/190 .457/.466 with a 114 lsa except the early 99 models witch had 115.5 lsa. The 6.0 cam is 196/207 .467/.479 on a 116 lsa except the 99-00 models witch were the same as the 5.3.
The Vinci is a good cam from what I understand, but to be honest I wouldnt bother changing if to the little gain you will get.
My first cam in my 5.3 was a 208/212. When I sold it I put a stock LS1 cam in it, and it was just as strong as the 208/212.
Personally Id hold out till you come across something along the lines of a 212/218, or 216/220. Or if you want a real cam get something like a TR220, or TR224.

BTW my cam is a custom grind 223/226, and I drive it everyday. The biggest I had in the 5.3 was a 218/224, and I liked it alot too. You can still get a semi agressive cam for a dd. With the computer controlled drivetrains, Id even let my mom drive my truck, it would just be a little loud, but the driveability is fine, and will be even better once I get around to tuning it.

Between the 2, if the price was a steal, I'd pick the Vinci...but that definitely is a baby cam, even compared to mine (206/212 .515/.520 114). Great daily driver with a nice improvement over stock, but you can still go bigger and maintain daily driveability and get away with a stock stall tq converter. (although even a stock truck would benefit from a good verter IMO...something in the 2400-2600 range would probably be perfect for my cam)
My truck idles and has a powerband that is similar to stock, just stronger...it got me .9 tenths and 8 mph in the 1/4 mile...running on 33" BFG AT's. (almost forgot to add...a PCMforLess 02 PCM also, which I'm sure had ALOT to do with the improvement)
