Default Heads choice 5.3 build

I'm in the middle of building a 2005 5.3 lm7 and I will later on be putting a turbo on it. I know what cam I'm going with, but the heads I'm debating about. Do I buy some used 243/799 which is a good option or get my 706 ported and what not. Read an article and wasn't sure which was best (article below). Thanks guys!

If you are doing a turbo later, leave the stock heads on it. Small chambers and runners will work better for the turbo. If anything just have them milled slightly to allow for a little better CR. This is what I was told by a few people and just had done.

WCCH heads sales a pair of 5.3 heads with exchange starting at $898 Untitled

SDPC sells theirs for $549 Each head which will be nearly $1100 https://sdparts.com/details/scoggin-...center/sd8926c

Both good companies and both Sponsors.

I purchased a set from WCCH as he has always done me right. They look really nice and I opted for the Dual Spring upgrade.

Would stock runner size be better for lower boost app, and ported for larger boost/motor?

The whole Idea of Forced induction is to force air into the engine.

You will see a gain with the ported heads.

However a ported head will affect the rpm range of when the boost comes on and the benefit's you see from the boost .

You may want to ask around in the forced induction section with the specific package you want to put together.

You may benefit from a Stage 1.5 head from Richard @ WCCH. The package is basically re working the Bowl area's with larger valves designed to work around the 5.3Ls bore and maintain your Low end power.

That makes sense! So for low end tq = velocity of air flow and topend power = volume of air flow? 243's would make more low end power on a 6.0 vs L92s would make more topend hp

I'll check those heads out Fastbrick thanks for the info!

Any time!!! Thats what the forums are for.

Everyone wants to swap to the L92's to squeeze every last bit out of the motor, then they complain about the low end were they spend alot of there time.

Id run the L92's on a stroker or big cube type motor any time because they need to breath.

If were using all custom parts then I wouldn't even consider the factory heads.
