For what you looking to do, get a cam with less overlap, the more overlap you have the more you'll hurt your low end. Overlap is good for making power on the top end since the intake velocity at those RPM's is enough to overcome the exhaust pressure for that slight moment that the two valves are open together, also helps scavange any remaining exhaust out of the cylinder. However during Low rpm driving the intake velocities are not enough and you end up with some intake reversion which is why you hear your motor lope.
