how should i rebuild my 5.3L
i have a 2003 single cab silverado with 120,000 miles and im fixin to pull the motor. i am lookin for suggestions on what i can do to pull as much horsepower out of it for around $3000. p.s. when i put it back in my truck i plan on supercharging it.

With gas prices on the rise I'd opt for the smaller displacement. 120k miles on these motors isn't very much at all but if the motor will be completely disassembled I'd suggest machine work. An overbore and new pistons would be on my checklist. You can stick with the common .030" over routine to clean up the cylinder walls or go as far as 0.118" over and make it into a 5.7L using the same block. That way you can utilize everything you already have instead of buying a 6.0L. The machine work and new pistons will run you about $1000, more of course if you go with forged pistons. After that the list of modifications should include a new cam, new timing chain, possibly new heads to match the pistons and compression ratio, along with corresponding springs for the cam. Put the motor back together, have a nice exhaust system done up with long tube headers and your flavor of muffler and you're done, everything should bolt right back up as you took it off. Finish the build with a tune.
