how strong are ls2 rods

Default how strong are ls2 rods

im goin to be building a 370 for my truck nothing to crazy. i was just wondering since i want to upgrade the pistons and rods how much will stock ls2 rods handle i only plan on running a 150 shot and i dont plan on spinning the motor past 7500. or am i just better off getting a set of 6.125 since theres better piston selection then the 6.098?

They should hold up fine. IIRC there are people making up to 700hp with them but 550 is likely more ideal.

I have a set but I don't want to run them for the fact that I want to go FI in the future and would rather get the internals i need now so I don't need to tear into it again later.

seen guys go to 800hp with them before on here but if you plan on making more then 650-700 id shur upgrade then to be on the safe side.

he can turn 7500 rpms and live a while . i dont know for that rpms ,i would sure to go forged rods. rpms is what will kill a rod quick not hp

Yep^Results will differ between some setups but ,I will say someone has already used them in a setup that theoretically put over a 1000 to the ground based on track times.I dont think hes ever been on the dyno though.Ill let him chime in on details.Then again its really gonna go back to the tune/setup cause, there is such a huge difference in controlled cylinder pressure as opposed to detanation/preignition.Im talkin thousands of psi defference.As said before rods more or less are gonna save you on rpms.Pistons take the brunt of detanation/preignition.

think im just goin to go with a set of H-beams just for the fact theres alot more piston options. plus if i do go with more then a 150 shot id rather be on the safe side.

The main reason the piston selection is so much better for an aftermarket rod, more so than the length, is due to the aftermarket using the more common 0.927” pin size in lieu of the factory 0.945” (pressed) / 0.943” (floating) pin size. Due to this, I do agree by having more options as well as having a stronger rod to boot, it probably would be the best solution in your case.

On a side note, GM also has their own LSX forged piston and rod combination that includes an even smaller pin (lighter weight) at 0.866”.

i was on gm performance parts site but i cant seem to find these rods and pistons you speak of.

I just typed in the part number and this is the description I received from Pace Performance. They have pistons ready in the 4.185” bore size for the LSX-454, but that’s it so far. You really should download the entire GM catalog, as maneuvering through their site leaves a lot to be desired.

A friend of mine made 825whp through a t56 for a long time before they finally bent. He pulled the motor once the pistons started hitting the counterweights on the crank.
