I Know That We All LOVE Cam Questions...

Bud,
I'm currently running the 222/226 (as you know) and a stock 4l80e converter. Aside from slightly louder exhaust note and the fact that I have it idling 100 rpms higher than stock, no one would ever know it was cammed. I think that 224/228 would be very mild in your LQ9 and you'd have no problems transporting your daughter around

I was just checking out Isky's site, and they offer custom grinds, and have a 224 lobe with .578, a 227/.585, and a 230/.592...curious how their lobes would fare vs a Comp XER lobe. The duration/lift numbers are similar, but I wonder how the lobe designs and valve events differ
I've been real down on Comp lately, but can't deny the success of the XER lobes, and their cams don't seem to be problematic as of late. Might have to talk to pop about his feelings on Comp vs. Isky. I'm pretty sure that he has other, less known sources, that grind his cams, which of course he specs out himself

Thanks Micheal...actually Rosie will like the exhaust note, she loves it when I open the cutout

x2 on this cam or similar.. my cousin went form a 222/226 56*/56* 113 to a 228/232 60*/60* 111 and that truck just woke up.. same low end crazy much better top end.. on a ecsb 4x4... pulling it to 6400 but i would also recommend a tbss manifold on anything over 6k shift points.. this on ur 6.0 should b crazy i c 12s all day in ur truck..

I agree with this. I just put an EPS 222/226 in my LQ9 with the stock converter in my Crew Cab Denali and my 60' time DROPPED. With your converter and weight advantage I would go with something slightly bigger. I wouldnt shy away from a 224/230 or a cam like wheatley's. BTW I shift mine at 6200 and it seems to like that point. I ran a 13.85 @ 98.13 in my truck... granted the weather was good, but I expect a 13.2 once i get the verter in the same weather. At the same time I wouldnt wanna rev the **** out of anything i owned either. No matter what anyone tells me I think RPM's kill engines in the long haul.

With funds being so tight (actually non-existent right now), I'll be wanting something that will work with the stock intake and less than optimal exhaust that I'm currently running...then, if and when things get better, I'd like to upgrade the intake and exhaust, and I figure that I'll up the cam at that point. So I'm basically looking for a cam that is matched to my current intake and exhaust setup for starters

In that case I think I would go with a cam just like I have. I talked to pat G and he said that to shift at 6000 I wouldnt lose anything and I am probably peaking my HP at about 5900 or so. You can short shift it and still be on the boil, or you could spin it up to 6300 or higher without feeling like its running out of breath too. I have seen people prove over and over again that you dont need a huge cam to have a REALLY strong running truck. My cam in an otherwise mostly stock RCSB like yours with your converter and I GUARANTEE you're running 12's. I'm gonna be damn close to 12's with a stall for christ sake...

Vortec350ss is right, Bud I don't see why you wouldn't be able to hit 12.9X -13.0 in your RCSB with a well matched cam to your mods and verter. I have seen Rcsb 5.3's with LT's, tune and low 220's cams do 13.5 1/4th on the stock converter on a good run.. They just flash the converter up on top of a good reaction time. 13.7 in 1/4th isn't uncommon with the same mods I listed with stock converter.
