Default intake honing?

I was wondering if anyone has had a truck intake extrune honed or ported and polished.

Reason i ask is there is a stock 8.1L intake on e bay, Think i can get for like 30 bucks.

Just wondering if the benifits of have it extrune honed is worth the money. There will be a whippled going on it.

Just dump sand in it, that'll hone it out

Bump for yea. I'd imagine it helps a bit but Dunno myself if its worth doing.

never heard of honng the intake....it's plastic. I have heard of extrude honing the intake on the heads, that does help. Extrude honing is when they force an abrasive media, like a clay thru the intake ports to aid flow. At least that's it as I have seen it on my bike heads.

I can't see the benefit. It's molded plastic. Trust me, the molds will have a smooth finish on them.

Extrudesion honing works very well in high RPM or FI with a touch of higher rpm becouse the uniformly smooth walls aid in all out flow. But on a street motor the little casting bumps aid in turbulance to keep the air tumbling. Thus your fuel stay suspended in the air.

So on a dry manifold like our trucks have I would be interested to see what happens. Either way you would not gain enough HP to justify the cost. I know in some of the stock appearing racing classes the guys use it to port there exhaust manifolds to the max, and gain maybe 10-15 Horse for a cost of $400.

I believe it does work but only for rpm's excedding 8000 where any small flaw cost Big Horse power.

ExtrudeHone is pretty close to me, so I went there to look into getting my J tube done. They guy there said he does a lot of them for the Lightning crowd. Said they usually see 10-11 hp gain. I didn't think the cost would justify the gain in my application. Then, somebody mentioned about the roughness actually being helpful, like the post above. So I didn't do it. They do alot og OEM stuff, too. Pretty cool.

thanks guys.

The intake on the 8.1L is cast i think.. it looks like the rough side of a bick on the inside. The guys around here that have lightnings and cobra where talking about one night. thats where i got the info.

I agree, $400-500 buck for 10-11 hp is not worth the money
