Couple of thoughts
The L33 cam vs. the LM7 cam:
L33 Intake lift- .482" Exhaust Lift- .482"
LM7 Intake lift- .456" Exhaust Lift- .465"
I do not have the duration specs in front of me, but I do believe they are really close to stock, within 2-3 degrees of each other. The LSA and total Overlap might be different on the L33, more overlap I would guess, as the L33 has a higher static compression which lends it to "working" with a cam with more overlap. That would be something else to consider. Also, I do believe that EGR is not present on the L33's from 05-07 classics (as well as all subsequent 5.3L from 2007 on), which would also be due to modified valve events allowing more draw through of exhaust gasses on intake opening.

well i am considering doing a cam swap but how long will this piston slap last for? i always let this thing warm up and then it goes away. i was wondering if there will be a day where it just does not go away??

The piston slap will be there for ever and wont hurt anything...due to the short skirt pistons on the GENIII engines, they (the pistons) rock in the cyinder until they heat up and expand...Most of the GENIII engines do it. I believe in 03 some LQ9's got a teflon coating on the piston skirt, and eventually other GENIII engines got the same treatment, not sure which engines and when (don't have the time to search it right now). I'm sure that if you search the internet for GENIII Piston Slap, or LS Piston Slap, you will find pages and pages of information, and the correct info will tell you not to worry about it and let er run. There are 300K+ LS engines running around out there that start up with piston slap every morning
