I think it all depends on how much air you flow before the intake valve and after the exhaust valve, theres a happy place for a cam if you know how to spec it, 95 percent of the peaple on here dont know what there engines really need and i cant say i really do eaither. you can have a perfect cam in you truck then bolt on a set afr heads and have to get a completely different cam. Stall/gear/waight and comes in too. Dont think you will get an answer here unless you got a engine setup we can go off of..

A traditional split pattern cam shaft has more exhaust duration to help evacuate the exhaust from the cylinder, with the assumption that the exhaust system is the most restrictive link in the chain. Single pattern cams historically make more torque and provide for better throttle response than split patterns, when installed in the right setup. Different applications call for different designs...it's not uncommon to see single pattern cams on circle track cars, and traditional split cams on factory vehicles obviously, and often in drag race cars in an attempt to actually have a negative effect on low end torque for traction, and often time more top end hp.

(I'm speaking in a naturally aspirated standpoint...boosted applications almost always call for a wider LSA and more exhaust duration)
