Question lost boost after cam and 80 swap ... ??

well i got my 80e/3200 stall put in and did a cam/rods/springs swap while it was down " 220-224 581-581 115" and after tunning was dialed in i went from seeing around 10#s to seeing 6#s in first and 8#s in second shifting at 5900 rpms. i got a p1 procharger with a 3.7 pulley on it now. i dont know why i would loose boost . any ideas ?

bigger cam will always reduce boost. boost is a measure of resistance and the larger cam reduced that resistance. the more important subject is did the truck slow down or get faster? you can go faster with less boost. if you want to you can pulley down now and pick the boost back up, and the horsepower will increase accordingly.

well after the 80e and cam install the truck feels about the same with a lil more ***** in the mid range. i was counting on loosing about 30hp from the 80 on the low end but i think i gained it back with the cam so i think that is why i think it feels about the same even thou i lost 3-5 #s of boost.
its just weird cause my friend that had this cam in his 5.3 said he didnt see a loss in boost at all, i dont know if there is a difference between the 5.3 and 6.0 but that is what he said .

If he had a stock or restrictive exhaust and a cai he may have not seen a loss in boost.

That's somewhat true.... The "bigger" cam is not what's causing the loss of boost pressure. It's the valve events of said cam. I've had bigger cams that have maintained boost levels just fine. It's all about valve events and ICL and LSA just to clarify.

so do you think the cam i got would cause loss in boost? so it seems right that i lost like 3lbs of boost from the cam i got ?

thats definitely not out of the question. to know 100% yes or no we'd need the whole cam card. overlap etc.... overlap is really the root cause of the "boost bleed" youre experienceing.

Got any before and after dyno numbers? If the numbers are the same even with the 80e swap than your not "losing boost" at all, just your motor is running happier (i.e. less restriction)

ill get a pic of the cam card asap . as far as dyno numbers not yet but we might be getting a awd dyno in town this next month so we will see. i gauge my truck off of my friend s/c srt8 300. before the swap when i was making 10-11 lbs of boost i walked him pretty fast about 2-3 truck lenghts by 100 mph or so, now after the cam swap he walks me about 2-3 car lenghs with me only pushing 6-7 lbs at max rpms. so what do you think ? think i over all gained or lost power if i can get my boost back ?
