Default LQ4/L92 408ci. Possible build.

Hey Everyone,

I have been kicking around some ideas on what to do in my 2001 Silverado. It's getting up there on the miles about 126 000. The 4.8 has a good lifter tick all the time. I'm sure the tranny could use a rebuild too.

Anyway, I have tossed around the idea of building a 408, OR, find a decent low mile engine to put in and just do bolt ons. I am leaning toward the 408 build. I already have some of the parts.

What I already have...

High mile LQ4. It has been disassembled, the block is all cleaned up and ready for machining.

A Callies 4.00" stroke dragon slayer crank.

A set of L92 heads. Had some bent Valves.

So I started pricing some things out. I am up in the air about what to do for the tranny. Build the 4L60E or find a 4L80E. I want to build a turbo deal, but I'm not sure if I want to spend that much cash on top of the 408 build. Also, how much power do I really need? Haha. I already have a fairly quick street car ( which is a never ending money pit already.)

I will be towing with this truck, however when my car breaks, it would be nice to be able to drop the trailer and continue racing with the steel toboggan. Or let the wife race it.

Any thoughts??

if the its the intakes that are bent replace them with ls3 valves , and if you plan on putting the same amount of miles on it i would go with stock stroke, but nothing is as nice as the torque you will get with 4 inch stroke

Why not just drop a stock 4.8 5.3 or 6.0 in it with a cam and a turbo?

and a 4L80E

I'm not too worried about a little 4" stroke the LS has a decent deck hieght at 9.240". We run a small engine shop, and most of our engines are some sort of stroker. My small block in my car is a 4.250" stroke. That being said, it probably wouldn't be an engine you would want to put a pile of miles on.

Is there any places I should know about to buy valves from? Any smokin' deals? I have been looking at Texas Speed for some parts. I haven't priced anything out yet through Dad's engine shop.

That is the other idea. The question here is, will I have the same money into this type of combo as I would into the 408? I already have heads, block, and crank. If I drop a stock engine in and build that, I still have these parts on the shelf.

Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate it. I'm not new to performance, but I haven't done any LS's yet.
