Default LQ9 Cam Choices

I will be picking up a stock low mileage Lq9 here next week.

Going to put a cam and valvetrain upgrade before dropping it in.

Looking for .550+, low duration cam opinions. Both 2004 Silverado and Lq9 engine are otherwise currently stock.

Piston-to-valve clearance ok for up to .600 lift?

Comp #918 good for .600 lift? Average life?

Get the Patriot Duals. Thats what I have in mine. The 918s have had problems. The cam we put in are 216/220 .586 .??(.58?) 114LSA. Good all round cam.

Not to hijack, but where does this cam come from? I've been looking for high lift version of this cam.

on a LQ9 I would no doubt about it put the MagicStick3.... 2 buddies have put that on their lq9s and are both running low 12s WITH traction problems... I highly recommend that cam.

Holy soggy bottom end power batman! The specs on that cam are rediculous for a street driven truck. I don't think he wants to spin his motor to 7000 RPM's to make power. Or maybe he does. that thing has to sound like a popcorn machine at idle.

I drive mine everyday. The cam is a custom grind comp cam 236/240 and I am only spinning my motor to 6600 rpms and still feel it pulling hard. I'll probably move up my shifts some more once I get the fast 90/90 and hit the rollers to see the powerband.

Thanks for all the responses....

Checked out the Partiot Duals and they are my first choice, along with CM pushrods.

Guess P-to-V clearance is alright up to .600?

Have heard LQ9's and all GEN III like a lower duration, and a higher lift. Ex.= LS7 cam is 211/230 with a lift of .593/.588. The Ls7 engine is quite different than Lq9 but the principles are the same.

Basically looking for something easy to tune myself, with great power all through RPM's (TB converter coming!!), and a 114 LSA. Plan to keep it all N/A after I got rid of the Radix. Won't be spinning past 6200-6300 rpms.

Red03SilSS.....the cam you mentioned is spot on for my needs. Do you have any dyno numbers to discuss/share?

Any success with split duration cams? OEM cam's above .550?

No. I haven't even driven the truck since the cam was installed last weekend. We are doing a head swap this weekend due to some Valve problems after the cam swap. It has maybe 3 minutes of Idle time and thats it. When it hits the idle it does sound good though. I hopefull get to drive it this weekend after the srping break in and i will let you know how it feels.

I want you to keep us up to date on your 216/220 cam swap and results. I am building a 6L for a RCSB truck and hadn't found a high lift version of it yet. Please let Rafedial and I know how things go once it's up and running
