Default Lq9 cams for aggressive driver?

Im looking for a camshaft for my lq9. It will be in my daily driver, so I need excellent throttle response, with superior characteristics. The truck is somewhat heavier, its a 2001 Tahoe. Like the title says, Im somewhat of a aggressive driver, but need to be gone at certain times. I need help so I can put the correct cam in my LQ9 without having to pull it out again. I know I will need springs and hardened pushrods. I read alot about the 224/224 cam but thought I will loose bottom end, and it will not work good in a Tahoe? Or is this the correct cam or is it a better one? My gears are stock 3.73s for now, and tires are 31.5 or so. I do plan to get maybe a 32" tire. Future plans will be a 80e for durability, with a lighter stall and higher stall converter.

What is the price on cam swap with springs and pushrods together? Average cost? Also if someone has a stall gear combo, please post your input. I need to make the LQ9 shine.

tr224 with a 3k stall

all the parts typically run around $500, shop labor could be anywhere from 500 to 1500

Thanks for the response, so Im stearing this way now... Would I use the same size stall if I were to put a 80e as well? Just need to be sure the Tr224 push 6 passengers head to the back of the headrest on road trips (adults) Dont plan to tow too much if any at all.

No, 60e and 80e converters are different.

i think the tr224 would be as big as would want to go with at least a 3000 stall in such a heavy vehichle. good luck.

Thats the plan right there. You guys are great!

Now my other question is this, with the above combo as planed on the LQ9, WILL I gain any advantage of running my 5.3 heads on the LQ9 with the Tr224, 3kstall?? Thats another big question of mines, did few searches but was not solid clear answer. From what I gather, My compression will be high but streetable and safe? But what about performance wise? I know the 317s flow great, but will the bump in compression make it a entire better engine/hp/tq? I do plan on runing 93 I do that all the time... Or should I just stick with stick lq9 heads? Please explain.

The 317s flow much better than the 862s. You would be downgrading IMO.

Maybe thats why I couldnt find too much info on that. Thanks for the answer, I would hate to downgrade (lol). So maybe if I mill the heads like .030 off what would that do for the bump in compression? Also what type of hp/tq gain .030 milled would gain me, if its worth it? I can get .010 is 25$ or something, I know I payed 150 for a pair normally.

The 224 will be a great cam and along with a yank 3000 will do good in a tahoe. I would save my coin and upgrade to 243's you would basically have an iron ls2 and then sell your 317's to offset the cost.

I second the 243's. If you want comparable flow numbers with a bump in compression that is the way to go. You could put the 5.3 heads on but IMO you would need a port/polish job to go along with it which would be extra money.
