Lq9 cams....i already used the search function for the past week lol...
my 5.3 motor went out and Im in need of a new motor...I'm searching for an lq9, but while the motor is out, I'm going to go ahead and throw a cam in there.
I do not regularly race my truck....if someone is acting a jackass, i'll put the pedal down on them, but i do not actively race it. I sometimes tow cars and haul stuff. I don't plan on a converter just yet (if i do it'll be a 2600 or a 3200 yank stall) I would like more power throughout the powerband, as well as more torque. The truck currently has ASM longtubes and x pipe, true duals magnaflows. Plan on doing electric fans this summer.
I am wanting suggestions on cam's for the 6 liter lq9... please help me out!!! lol i've been out of the game for almost a decade so I'm not as savy as I once was when it comes to all these things hehe..
thanks a ton!!!

I have a 216/224 551/551 115lsa for sale. Its a vinci trucker cam. Its a great cam. I will sell it for 250 plus shipping. It has less than 3000 miles on it. Let me know if your interested.

Something of the sort will be wonderful in a truck that wants power across the RPM band. This is the same cam I am going with in my LQ4 build, and this was custom ground for me by a CompCAMS expert. I do say expert, because he's done over 1000 cams for Lingenfelter builds and spends his free time with CompCAMS grinding custom camshafts. Look at my Avatar and signature to see why I cannot afford to lose any low end.
Duration @ .050 218/ 224
Valve lift .562/ .567
Lobe separation angle 112degrees
Intake center line 108degrees
+4 advance
In an otherwise stock LQ9 with long tubes and E-fan you're looking at an easy 405hp, 410lb-ft of torque with no loss of truck pulling power.

Im running this cam in my TBSS.. I pushed 383/383 with 12.9 afr.. Need to dial in a little more and drop down to 12~12.25 afr and she'll be good to go.. Not much power past 6100ish, but an overall good cam without having to change the springs.

You should have changed the springs with that cam, the stock springs are meant for a cam with .571-.578 lift. I dont doubt its better then the stock cam but there are much better NA choices out there. The GT2-3 is a blower spec cam with a very large exhaust bias, and therefore a low intake duration. A NA 6.0 can easily have a intake duration in the 22x-23x range, as opposed to 207.

Take a look at the Vinci 079 (the "Ultra Torque") -- won't need a converter, doesn't require a retune, will give you lots of torque.
Yes, an LQ9 can handle a 22x-23x on the intake, but won't flow enough to require that much. IMO 22x - 23x on a 6.0 is too much -- not to mention that it will require a new converter and lots of tuning. For a DD cam given the stated intentions of the OP, smaller is better. Heck, in almost every situation, smaller than the max the motor can handle is better IMO.
I run a 23x with an FI 408 on race heads so that should explain how I feel better than words
