ls1 boring
ok i have a ls1 block need to fit a 3.905" piston. the stock bore is 3.898 so i need tp bore .007" so do i need to bore that or will a hone work? the machine shop guy said it would be finiky and hard to line up just right and would be easier to just hone it to that. thoughts?

First question is what year is the block? Early years had very thin sleeves and could barely take a hone job.
As for the actual question, sorry I don't know which would be better way of doing it.

I would still have the machine shop do the honing, they should have torque plate and will use a machine to hone it and will end up with a much truer bore then you can do by hand which is important for proper ring sealing.
Besides, taking .007 with a hone by hand on 8 cylinders will take FOREVER!

well the guy said he didn't have a torque plate and it wouldn't need one. so i said yeah um... i'm not taking it there lol. i've only found one person who said they had a torque plate and it cost extra and i'm not even sure if he was full of crap or not. up here in maine they don't seem to do much if any ls1's. and i don't have the money to ship it here and there and ship it back.
