Default LS1 build??

I am looking into putting a ls1 or 6.0 in my truck. looking to spend about 1500 on a long block and then work from their. But found a shop that sells remanufactured ls1's. Here is their parts list.

# Iron 5.3L Block (Over bored to fit 5.7L LS1 Pistons)
# 10/10 Gm Forged Crank
# Speed Pro Competion Series Main Bearings
# Speed Pro Competion Series Rod Bearings
# Gm Cracked Rods
# Speed Pro Hypereutectic Coated Pistons
# LS6 High Flow Oil Pump
# Speed Pro File to fit Plasma Moly Piston Rings
# Comp Cam 558 563 212 218 115
# Comp Cam Chrome Moly Pushrods
# Comp Cam .600 Beehive Valve Springs
# Comp Cam Lifters
# 2002 LS1 241 Cylinder Heads Milled .030 with stock valves and GM Seals
# VR Performance Composite Head Gaskets
# Complete Engine Gasket
# Powerforce Balancer
# This Engine is Built for a NOS application of up to 250 shot.

The only thing I can see that I would want different would be forged pistons. Which they said will add about 150. ANd I can get a 500 dollar core fee if I send mine back.

I would probably go with a bigger cam.

They are asking 2599 for that complete block (intake manifold and all).

I looked around for a 6.0 and found a few for the 1500 dollar mark. But then I would end up putting a few grand into it to get it similiar to that build.

Lemme knwo what you think.

Hypereutectic pistons WILL NOT hold a 250 shot....you will need Forged pistons for that. That is basically a stock rotating assembly and will not be any more durable than the stock parts. That build up is just a stock crank, stock rods, stock pistons, and stock rod/main bolts. You could get the 6.0l for 1500, have the same quality parts that the new LS1 has, put the cam you want in it and use the 6.0l heads which would be better than the 241's, and you would be much happier.

the one I would buy would have forged pistons. THey will thorw forged pistons in for 150. Mahle forged to be exact, mahle forged nitrous pistons.

Heads can be picked up for pretty cheap so that isnt a big deal. I more concerned on the motor. I want atleast a year or MORE on a 200 shot ls1/6.0. It probably wont see 25-30 sprays in a year but I want the option to be able to.

The parts in the bottom end of that ls1 you have listed won't support that big of a shot. Your gonna need a good crank and rods to hold that much.
