Default ls1 destroke or no? YES I SEARCHED ALREADY!

I have been doing research and have gotten a lot of biased views on the idea. I am doing a lsx swap into a 1990 Toyota but like the idea of an aluminum block.

So obviously as stated in the title. Would there be a benefit to doing a 4.8l crank and rod swap into a ls1 block? All the bearings and pistons are fine with the combustion height.

It will be a daily driver of over 100 miles a day to start out until I boost it. I want to be able to have high rev, maybe 8k. I know a stock 4.8 with ls6 valve springs can rev safely to 7k. Was not sure if the piston material was different and than I was told because of the way the oil is dispersed it helps keep things better lubricated in the ls1 series to allow for higher revving as well. Correct me if I am wrong as I honestly have no idea.

The idea was to swap a basic 4.8l iron block with a GTO series t56, ls6 springs and hardened push rods, ls6 cam and ls6 intake... boost the **** out of it until it blew. Also running e85.

Edit: But like the idea of a lighter overall setup. and the fact that an lsx in a Toyota isn't enough.. what if it was a destroked ls1boosted revving to 8k sustainable and pushing well over 800whp

I actually like the idea in a lighter vehicle personally. I think it would be a lot of fun revving to the moon especially with a T56 and a turbo. I do believe, however, that you would also need 4.8 rods to go along with the crank otherwise your pin height wont be the same.

Another thing you could look into if you want to stay with an aluminum block is an L33 5.3 engine out of an 05 or 06 ext. cab 4x4 pickup. May not be as much fun as the de-stroked Ls1 but its another option for you.

And that ls302 sounded incredible cranking up, I was on power tour that year and we followed it down the highway one night, it was awesome sounding.

What did they do to accomplish 8k? And was it sustainable with making power that high? I can make any motor rev out to 8k with the right valve train but the problem is making the power all the way up.

I thought about this. Would be a much more inexpensive route. Depending on how deep my pockets are once I buy a daily to build this will determine that.

Wouldn't a 4.8 rotating assembly in an l33 block basically be an aluminum 4.8...? At least with the ls1 block you're picking up some displacement from 294 ci

It had to do with how the oil was dispersed throughout and I thought the ls1 pistons have a higher c/r IIRC?

I'd only go to the trouble with large bore block so you keep some decent cubic inches. Basically be a short stroke 5.3. With that light of a truck it ought to scream.
