LS1 in a Samurai, cam for mid to low end Qs
Ok, I am putting a LS1 in my Samurai with a TH400 and a NP208 case. The axles are geared 5.38 and I will be running a 36 or 37 inch tire. I am looking for a cam that will bolster the mid to low end power mainly and have a noticeable idle. Now, I have a friend with a Comp 212/218 hi lift (which is less than .570) on a 115 LSA or there is another cam listed on here for sale that is a 227/231 with a low .600 lift on a 112 LSA. I know the larger cam because of the LSA, duration, and lift would chop a good bit more but I am not sure if it will give up too much down low and mid range. What would be a good cam to look at for what I am wanting to do? The Samurai when finished will weigh less than 3200 lbs so even if it was a little soft on top end it would still be strong as ***** because of the weight. Give me some suggestions please about the cam as I am wanting to assemble it pretty quick. One more thing, I have a 241 casting heads I can work and freshen or should I work some 317s and mill them for the desired CR? Is there enough difference to merit getting different heads, and what compression should I look at running stock 10.1 or should I consider bumping it?

Yea,, id stay at 114 and higher LSA..
Up your compression and do some researching, a lil higher CR should give you a lil better bottom end. And i think running a Truck Intake Manifold should help with low end TQ.
241s milled should do the trick, or 243s.
I gotta do some more research on the different heads

Choppy idle and low end don't go together...you can get a sorta choppy idle by setting the idle speed low. I vote for the 212/218 if you want low to mid torque, but you're going to barely hear it in a 5.7 if tuned correctly.

I think you should keep the lope, bump the comp up, run the stall you said but a tad less on the duration.. In truck that light with the correct gearing low end shouldn't be a prob...

It isn't a 6.0 it is a 5.7 LS1. The 241 heads have a 1.89 intake valve and the 243 and 317s are 2.0. I spoke with Wildcat Racing in GA about the heads and he said they would work the 241s for 350. That is milling the heads, mild port behind the valves, 3 angle, and matching intake and exhaust. I am leaning more towards the 212/218 but I am putting 10 lbs of poo in a 5 lbs bag so I want to hear a little lope. I don't want a massive hit but want to tell it 1) has a V8 and 2) sounds like it has something more than a stock cookie cutter V8. I have been told it wouldn't fit, wouldn't work, would weigh too much etc. I started the research and a lot of people swap in 4.3s, the LS1 is only 2 inches wider, 3 inches longer, and the LS1 weighs 434 ready to install the 4.3 425 lbs just a long block with intake. So 3 inches can me made by pushing the motor into the firewall, disty clearance wouldn't be an issue, 2 inches extra in width....pull the inner fenders which would yield better tire room anyway. Besides I am tubing the front end, the weight....the LS1 is lighter. So it can fit, and I will prove it. I was told 2 years ago 24s wouldn't fit on a truck lowered 4-6 without a lot of work. I lowered it, and bolted the wheels on, so I accept a challenge. I just want everything to work, and work very well together. So I guess I will run the 212/218, I feel like it should help bolster the mid range better than the stock cam in the LS1
