im curious as to why your going to use a 208 case instead of a 205?
are you going to run a stall in the th400?
also you should start a thread in a the project section. i would really like to follow it.
im in the process of moving funds around so i can build my 87 sierra mud truck. im hoping i can find a cheap 6.0 to put in the 2000 then put the 5.3 in the mud truck with a turbo on it. the plan is 5.3 turbo, th400/205, 37+ tires
good luck with the build.

The reason for the 208 is that it has an aluminum case, the 205 is all iron. The 205s low range is 2.1 the 208s is 2.6 so the overall crawl ratio will be better. The only downfall that the 208 has is a rear slip yoke instead of a flange. As I get everything together I have some ideas about how I can fix that. There is a kit sold that is a splined flange that you install, you drill and tap the output shaft and bolt it to output. So for now I am going to get it in and running, then later consider doing that if it becomes and issue. I am on the fence about if it will or not. As for a stall it was told to me that the Allison and TH400 can share torque converters. I have a friend with a low mileage TC and they usually stall around 1700 and are pretty tight, which is what I want because I don't want to lose the throttle response with a loose TC.

The wheel base is going to be stretched from the stock 80 to about 95. The reason I am wasting my time with the 208 instead of getting an Atlas is because they are as high as giraffe *****, plus I really dont think I will have any issue with it. It is geared better than a 205, lighter, and worked in a 1987 Suburban with a diesel so I am sure it will be up to the 3200lbs Samurai. If I am wrong I will atleast be able to wheel it and then upgrade it.

I have seen like 66.6 and 67.3 so I am not sure what to believe. I got that info from smokemup.com I would consider running some 5.2 heads as they have a small combustion chamber but they have a 1.89 intake valve and I am afraid it would hurt flow. I would LOVE to find some 243 heads with stock LS6 springs but haven't had much luck for a reasonable price. BTW thanks for that PM homie I will look it over, next time I come to MS I will have to look you up. I haven't been on this site in awhile as I haven't been on a computer a whole lot and doing research on Samurais and swap info....damn I missed it and this is the best site with the best guys, really
