I'll change oil tonight to see if the thicker oil will help. It will save me $300 in parts.

It's a pain in the *** too so if not to save $300, at least you can save a weekend of wrenching. I swaped out to LS7 lifters and used the stock MLS gaskets #12498544 and ARP head bolts. The LS6 MLS head gaskets ended up being $26 for the pair from GMPartsDirect.com and as for the ARP head bolts, I don't know if they offer much advantage over the stock ones but they are $113.95 from Summit.

12617944 for most LS Based engines...
Here is what I found... Copy and pasted... I will update my list....

LS Exhaust / Header Gasket - sold as a single gasket, requires two pieces for one engine.

This is the factory replacement exhaust gasket for most V8 LS applications since 1997 -- fits LS1, LS2, LS3, L76, and L92 applications. Not designed to fit the stock exhaust manifolds for the 2001 thru 2004 LS1 or LS6 Corvette - these apllications use GM gasket part number 12576221.
The large round design of this gasket #12617944, will fit most aftermarket header applications and the GM stamped steel design provides excellent sealing capabilities for the most severe applications

Damn that's cheap on the head gasket, that same one is $46 from TSP and the 6.0 head gasket is $72
