You mean the main BOLTS? yes, they are TTY. ARP studs, no they aren't, they are reusable.

yes main bolts. stockers. so they are reuseable? or no lol. if not reuseable are stockers good enough to use or should he upgrade? 400-500hp 383 stroker motor.

Stock main bolts are TTY.
Aftermarket ARP's are reusable.

the main bolts are angle-torqued but the factory service manual doesn't call for replacement. they do recommend replacing the side bolts because they have sealer applied to them but i would just clean them up really well and reapply some sealer.

Its because its not a true TTY bolt. They use that only as a reference when torquing them. It was explained to me once by a GM guy, but I still like to call it a TTY bolt and I never use them. To each his own.

thanks for the info guys. we'll see what he wants to do. 170 for the arp's isn'tbad though. but are they necessary to have for 500hp? or are stock replacements good if he decides to replace them?

It has nothing to do with HP for ARP stuff. Its all about machining and how many times you have to keep taking the bolts on and off when you machine. If they are true TTY bolts, then you have to go through about 3-4 sets just to do the machining the right way. So you are better off using ARP studs.

When I built my motor, I used the original stock bolts for checking all the clearances, then just bought a new set of stock GM TTY bolts to put it together with for the final time. The stock GM bolts are pretty cheap. I think even with stock bolts, the bottom end of these motors is still EXTREMELY strong

i think he will probably do stockers then. he has alot of other more important expensive things to buy. we are puting a 383 ls1 into a 97 gmc truck and taking out the 4.3l.
