Default Maintaining bearings tolerances after pulling studs

I have a set of arp main studs in my 418 Im planning on pulling ot put into the 6L would the bearing tolerances stillbe the same later on when I clamp the mains back down as long as I keep all the bearings in their place. I would think it will be fine since you can reuse good bearings. Just figured I'd get a second opinion before I pull them out this weekend.

Nothing will change as long as everything is tqed to the same specs. But 10lbs difference in tq MIGHT change the tollerances by .0001. That is the difference of taking a hair and splitting it 40 times. Very little differences in tq will change main brg tollerances.

The studs will be fine to reuse as long as there isn't any visible damage. If you are going to reuse the main bearings I would micrometer the journals on both cranks to make sure they are the same and I would still plasti-gauge the bearing clearance afterwards.

The main studs will be going in a totally different block that is already assembled. I got a 6L longblock that Im going to pull the stock main bolts out and throw the arps in there. Should I chech the tolerances of the 6L or just leave the damn stock bolts in there.

If it was a good running motor, i'd pull a main and a rod and look at the brgs and stick it back together if they look good and run it.

Can I ask why your putting these studs in this motor? The stock bolts have already been proven to handle big horse power (not a week link). You also have said your going to beat this motor into submission, why take a chance at damaging them when it blows? I'd save them for a better, more worth while project. Just wondering .

Ask a REPUTABLE and EXPERIENCED GENIII machinest if he would rather have main studs for checking and/or line honing... if main studs will be used. Maybe ask 2 or 3 machinests...

I would NEVER add main studs on a motor built with factory main bolts... PERIOD! I got the 3rd degree from my machinest after trying it once... and wondering why the crank would not turn after the (stud only mod) was attempted. FWIW, I tried it once... got bad results. Maybe it will work for you... maybe it won't. If adding main studs I would line hone... with them in place.

Just IMO...

The main bolts arent tty right? Ill pull the mains off and check the bearings and inspect the rod bearings when I put the rod bolts in. What is teh thread a pitch for the bolts I will need to put it on my motor stand? I know they are the same as what screws into a head but its kinda hard to carry one of those into lowes, if Ihave to I will. I guess Ill leave the studs alone then.

The bolts that I need to attach the motor to the engine stand.

I thought about using them as headbolts too

The bolts you need are 10x1.5 about 60mm long
