Long as you use a trusted machine shop to grind and polish the crank, clean and hone the block, and install the cam bearings its hard to screw it up. Even though I know the torque specs I still make it a habbit to use my engine book just to make sure its corrrect.

Finished up everything today, engine runs great and makes real good power for a tiny 5.4. sorry fellas no idle clip....nobody wants to hear stock exhaust!
Compared to a stock 5.3 the flat top pistons and LS1 cam make a good jump in performance and did not cost one cent more than using the dished pistons and stock truck cam.

Last night I put about 40 miles on the truck after breaking in the engine for about 30 min in the driveway, holds 75-80 on the highway with very minimal throttle. The old tired 5.3 struggled to hold 70 without constantly applying enough throttle to down shift the transmission, any hills or headwind would completely bog it down.
Overall I am very pleased with the results, the added power of the new flat top pistons and new LS1 cam are a decent upgrade. I think the main power difference comes from the compression ratio jump from the stock 9:5.1 to 10:5.1
