The bigger the cam, the bigger the stall. A 3000 stall helps a stock truck and is a must for anything close to what you want. A 3000 stall will drive very similar to stock if you get the right one yet work well with a larger cam like you are looking for.

Really? A professional spec'd that out for you? And then a 2500 stall?

That can't be right. No way anyone would recomend a 230+ cam for a lifted z71 with a 5.3. And I'd run at least a 3k rpm stall converter.

Thats too much cam for a 5.3 in a Ext. cab truck Period. With that cam, more like a 3600-4000 stall. That thing would be a absolute turd below 4k rpm.

I'm running a 3k converter with the vagina cam in my 5.3 and I love the way it reacts. I did drive this cam for about 5ish years on the factory converter and it was fine, but the converter really made the biggest difference off the line. What size tires and gear are you running? The tires look fairly large in your sig pic (33"+?), and if that's the case, I'd probably go with 4.30 gears, 4.10's at the least. Considering the tires/lift, along with ex-cab weight, I wouldn't go up much above 220/22x in duration if it were me. The 214/218 or Comp 212/218 sounds like they'd be just right IMO, and if you wanted a little more, I'd say either a TR220-112 or TSP220r-112 would still work decent for you. If you decide you want something in the 224/22x range, expect to run a 3400+ converter for best results...

that is a huge cam even for a single cab 2wd truck...

IMO, i would put a comp 216/220 on a 110-111 lsa, and a circle d 3200 stall in it. With some 4:10 gears and be done.

Either he is not a profesional or he is not your friend! That is nearly the size of cam in my 408. It certainly won't move your truck for **** till 5000+ rpm. You have a big heavy truck that needs low end power, the bigger the cam the compleat loss of low end.

Im no expert by no means. But there are a few guys that have z71s running the same size cams these guys are recommending to you.

They do say the smaller duration the cam the more torque it will make off the line. I would think that would be what a 4x4 like yours would need. Why not add a few hundreds to what it will cost to do the cam swap and have a 6.0. Thin u will have plenty of torque lol.

It all comes down to what u want. If u want a big cam try it. getting into moding and trying to be fast is always trill and error. Usually what these guys tell u is pretty much the right way to go.
